Schlitz is a school librarian. When her students were studying Medieval times, she wrote this series of monologues to help them perform and understand the lives of children in a Medieval English village. Very nicely done, though with a few clunky spots where the rhythm or rhyme doesn’t quite click. Kids could really get into these characters as a way of understanding that time period. A teacher or parent could use this book as a centerpiece to a larger unit, studying the whole era through the eyes of the characters in the book. Great marginalia and period-appropriate illustrations, as well.
